Broadway’s A Bronx Tale: The New Musical is being recorded January 9 for release on the Decca Broadway label.
A release date is scheduled be to announced shortly.
The show has a score by Oscar, Grammy, and Tony Award winner Alan Menken, and lyrics by Grammy Award winner and Oscar and Tony Award nominee Glenn Slater. Menken composed music for Disney classics including The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Newsies.
Academy Award nominee Chazz Palminteri, wrote the libretto, based on his own play and film about growing up the late 1960s Bronx, NY, in the world of organized crime. A Bronx Tale: The New Musical opened December 1, 2016 with a cast led by Tony Award nominee Nick Cordero (Waitress, Bullets Over Broadway) as Sonny, Richard H. Blake (Jersey Boys, Legally Blonde, Matilda The Musical) as Lorenzo, Bobby Conte Thornton (My Fair Lady at Bay Street Theatre) as Calogero, and Ariana DeBose (Hamilton, Bring It On, Motown The Musical) as Jane, toplining a 30-member cast.
The stage production is co-directed by two-time Oscar winner Robert De Niro and four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks, with choreography by Tony nominee Sergio Trujillo.
It will be the first new cast album released on the Decca Broadway label as part of the newly reorganized Verve Label Group.
