A co-presentation of the Culture Project and the United Nations, the one-night-only performance of Breaking The Silence — part of the U.N.'s "International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade" — will mark the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade.

The 7:30 PM concert will boast performances and appearances by Stew (Passing Strange), Phylicia Rashad (A Raisin in the Sun), Bill T. Jones (Spring Awakening), Liev Schreiber (Radio Golf), Sarah Jones (Bridge and Tunnel), Danny Glover (Master Harold… and the Boys), multi-award-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg, as well as the Cameroon Drummers, Ban Ki Moon/Father D'Escoto, Blind Boys of Alabama, Gilbert Gil, Carl Lewis, Ky-Mani Marley, Nile Rogers, Stacyann Chin, Angela Brown, Salife Keita/Toumani Diabate, Audrey Babcock, Daisy Jopling, Gabri Christa Troupe, Emeline Michele, Akon/Peter Buffet, Lenelle Moise, Izaline Calister, Noah Stewart/Lester Lynch, Salif Keita and The Impact Theatre Group.

Culture Project artistic director Allan Buchman said that the collaborative music event is part of the theatre company's effort to offer additional music, film and movement works as part of their programming.

"This unique event is something that will help to mold Culture Project's future. Working on groundbreaking collaborations like these with The United Nations is what our organization is about: focusing on a call to action while creating work for the world stage. This particular event has great importance as it allows us to commemorate the spirit of strength and resilience that led to the end of one of the most dire crimes against humanity," Buchman said in a statement.
