Moonlight Oscar winner Barry Jenkins, nominated earlier this year for If Beale Street Could Talk, has signed on to direct the upcoming movie exploring the life of Alvin Ailey, according to Deadline.
As previously reported, the project hails from Fox Searchlight, with producers including Alicia Keys, Judy Kinberg, Adele Romanski, and Rachel Cohen.
The biopic, penned by Julian Breece, will bring both Ailey's life and renowned dance pieces to the screen. Artistic Director Robert Battle and Artistic Director Emerita Judith Jamison will consult with Fox for the project; the studio also secured the rights to Jennifer Dunning’s biography Alvin Ailey: A Life in Dance.
