In the Off-Broadway debut of Bobby Goldman and Drew Brody’s musical comedy Curvy Widow, currently playing an open-ended engagement at the Westside Theatre, Nancy Opel plays a 50-something woman diving back into the dating scene after her husband’s death. Watch the Tony nominee perform the title song from the show in the new video above.
The musical, which began performances July 20 and officially opened August 3, features a book by Goldman and music and lyrics by Brody. Peter Flynn directs, and Marcos Santana choreographs.
Joining Opel in the cast are Andrea Bianchi (As The World Turns), Aisha de Haas (Rent), Elizabeth Ward Land (The Scarlet Pimpernel), Ken Land (The Scarlet Pimpernel), Alan Muraoka (Miss Saigon), and Chris Shyer (Mamma Mia!).
Curvy Widow arrives in New York City following hit runs at North Carolina Stage Company and the George Street Playhouse.
“From exploring internet personal ads and surviving hilarious first dates, to weighing the pros and cons of married vs unmarried men, this widow romps her way through it all with humor and perseverance, and discovers unexpected truths about love, life and sex,” read production notes for the new musical.
The production features scenic design by Rob Bissinger, costume design by Brian Hemesath, lighting design by Matthew Richards, and sound design by Ryan Rumery and M. Florian Staab. Andrew Sotomayor serves as musical director with orchestrations, arrangements, and music supervision by Wayne Barker. Casting is by Stewart/Whitley.
