After an extended sold-out run at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, the recent production of Fiddler on the Roof from the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene moves to Off-Broadway's Stage 42. Performances began February 11 prior to its February 21 official opening. Directed by Joel Grey, the staging stars Steven Skybell as Tevye, Jennifer Babiak who plays Golde, and Emmy nominee and Broadway veteran Jackie Hoffman as Yente; both reprise their performances in the move uptown after taking on the roles at the Museum last year.
This Fiddler is performed in Yiddish—as are all of the productions from NYTF—and features a translation by Shraga Friedman, first used in a performance in Israel in 1965. The production is accompanied by supertitles in English and Russian. Check out highlights from the production above.
