Transparent star Alexandra Billings and Tony nominees John Ellison Conlee and Johanna Day are among the cast of the Broadway premiere of Richard Bean's The Nap, a new play about the world of snooker (the British version of pool). The American premiere will also feature four-time and current 2018 United States National Snooker Champion Ahmed Aly Elsayed.
Tony-winning director Daniel Sullivan will direct the fall production from Manhattan Theatre Club, which is set to begin previews September 5 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. Opening night is September 27.
The cast of The Nap will also feature Heather Lind (Incognito, Othello, Turn), Max Gordon Moore (Saint Joan, Indecent), Bhavesh Patel (Present Laughter, War Horse), Thomas Jay Ryan (The Crucible, In The Next Room or The Vibrator Play, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), and Ben Schnetzer (Sticks and Bones, Pride, The Death and Life of John F. Donovan).
Additional cast members will be announced.
In The Nap, Dylan Spokes (Schnetzer), a fast-rising young snooker star arrives for a championship tournament only to be confronted by the authorities with a warning about match fixing. Before he knows it, he is forced into underhanded dealings with a cast of colorful characters that include his ex-convict dad (Conlee), his mother (JDay), a quick-tongued manager (Gordon Moore), and a renowned gangster (Billings).
The creative team for The Nap will be made up of David Rockwell (scenic design), Kaye Voyce (costume design), Justin Townsend (lighting design), Lindsay Jones (sound design), Anne Ford-Coates (hair and make-up design), Ben Furey (dialect coach), and Thomas Schall (fight director).
