The musical adaptation of Tootsie, featuring a score by The Band’s Visit Tony winner David Yazbek and book by Robert Horn, is ready to introduce Broadway audiences to Dorothy Michaels. Performances will begin March 29, 2019, at the Marquis Theatre, where it will officially open April 23.
The Marquis was most recently the home of the Jimmy Buffett musical Escape to Margaritaville.
Leading the cast of Tootsie will be Tony nominee Santino Fontana as Michael Dorsey, a struggling actor who lands a job under the female persona of Dorothy Michaels. The cast also includes Lilli Cooper as Julie Nichols, Sarah Stiles as Sandy Lester, John Behlmann as Max Von Horn, Andy Grotelueschen as Jeff Slater, Julie Halston as Rita Marshall, Michael McGrath as Stan Fields, and Reg Rogers as Ron Carlisle.
The musical, directed by Scott Ellis and choreographed by Denis Jones, will first play a pre-Broadway engagement at Broadway in Chicago’s Cadillac Theatre September 11–October 14.
The production will feature sets by David Rockwell, costumes by William Ivey Long, lighting by Donald Holder, and sound design by Brian Ronan.
