But instead of the West End, where it was first seen in 2006 at the Albery Theatre (now the Noel Coward) and subsequently played a tour of West End theatres that also included consecutive runs at the Gielgud and Wyndham's, it is now to have its London fringe premiere at Highgate's Upstairs at the Gatehouse.
It will begin performances there May 16, prior to an official opening May 21, for a run through June 30.
Produced by resident company Ovations, it will be directed by John Plews, with musical supervision by Angharad Sanders, musical direction by Simon Burrow and choreography by Grant Murphy. Paul Jomain is the puppet maker, with lighting by Aaron J. Dootson and sound by Jon Raper. The associate director is Simon Lipkin, who was in the original London cast, in which he played Nicky and Trekkie Monster. He is currently in the cast of the London production of Rock of Ages.
Casting is still to be announced.
Avenue Q began its life at Off-Broadway's Vineyard Theatre in 2003, before transferring to Broadway and then returning to Off-Broadway's New World Stages in 2009 where it continues to run now.
