Talk show host James Corden, who is scheduled to host the 2016 Tony Awards ceremony and broadcast, began his first primetime special with a Broadway-style song-and-dance opening number.
Corden, himself a Tony winner for his comic performance in One Man, Two Guvnors, kicked off The Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special number set to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ ”Downtown.” The choreography was not credited. Corden often works musical numbers into his late-night talk show, which is celebrating its first anniversary.
This year's Tony Awards will be given June 12 at the Beacon Theatre, and broadcast on CBS-TV.
