Audiences are clamoring to see Bette Midler return to her Broadway stage musical roots as matchmaker Dolly Levi. Producer Scott Rudin revealed that his revival of Hello, Dolly! raked in $9,082,497 at the box office in its first day of ticket sales, a new Broadway record.
“We are thrilled with the tremendous response from Hello, Dolly! ticket-buyers. The combination of this show and Bette Midler has proven irresistible to theatergoers,” Philip J. Smith and Robert E. Wankel, Chairman and President of The Shubert Organization, respectively, said in a statement.
Tickets went on sale September 17. Representatives for the production stated that Midler is scheduled to appear at all performances currently on sale via Telecharge.
Midler will be joined by David Hyde Pierce as Horace Vandergelder in the revival that will begin Broadway previews March 15, 2017, and open April 20 at the Shubert Theatre.
