As PrivateBank changes to CIBC as part of its June acquisition by Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, so does the theatre that shares its namesake. The PrivateBank Theatre, which is currently home to the Chicago engagement of Hamilton, will soon change its name and marquee to the CIBC Theatre.
“We are happy that CIBC will continue to support Broadway In Chicago's mission to attract the best shows like Hamilton,” said Broadway in Chicago President Lou Raizin in a statement. “Their sponsorship of the CIBC Theatre represents a commitment to Chicago and its vibrant theatre community.”
The theatre first opened as the Majestic Theatre in 1906, marking the first venue in Chicago to cost over $1 million. Following a major renovation in the mid-aughts, the theatre reopened in 2006 as the LaSalle Bank Theatre prior to a name change to the Bank of America Theatre in 2008. Broadway in Chicago and PrivateBank formed their partnership in late 2015.
Advanced sale tickets that read “PrivateBank Theatre” will still be valid for future performances.
