The hit Off-Broadway musical The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is set to head out on a national tour beginning in fall of 2018, producers announced. The cast and tour schedule will be announced at a later date.

The Lightning Thief debuted the Lucille Lortel Theatre earlier this year, where it played an acclaimed, extended run and was nominated for three Drama Desk Awards.

Adapted from the book of the same name by Rick Riordan, the new musical is written by Joe Tracz (Series of Unfortunate Events) and Rob Rokicki (Strange Tails), with direction by Stephen Brackett. The story follows a young man who discovers he is the son of gods, and suddenly has powers he can't control.

In the title role Off-Broadway was Chris McCarrell (Les Miserables, Peter Pan Live, The OA), alongside Carrie Compere, James Hayden Rodriguez, Sarah Beth Pfeifer, Jonathan Raviv, George Salazar, and Kristin Stokes.

An earlier version of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical debuted in New York in 2014 as part of Theatreworks USA’s free theatre series before heading on tour. The Off-Broadway show, which opened April 4 to positive reviews, featured an updated score, expanded script, a larger cast, and a live band.

The production featured choreography by Patrick McCullum, fight direction by Rod Kinter with set design by Lee Savage, costume design by Sydney Maresca, sound design by Ryan Rumery, lighting design by David Lander, and orchestrations by Wiley DeWeese and Rob Rokocki.

The Lightning Thief was presented by special arrangement with Rick Riordan and the Gallt & Zacker Literary Agency.

The national tour will be presented by a partnership between the show’s producers, Theatreworks USA, Martian Entertainment, Greg Schaffert Productions and Lang Entertainment Group, with The Road Company.
