The 2016 Fire Island Dance Festival kicks off July 15 with stage and screen actor Tituss Burgess as the host. The three-day festival is produced by and benefits Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of BC/EFA, and features outdoor performances in Fire Island Pines on a stage overlooking Great South Bay.
The festival line-up includes Ballet Contemporaneo de Camaguey Cuba’s, a contemporary ballet company performing outside of Cuba for the first time; Dance Theatre of Harlem, known for acclaimed contemporary works and celebrating African American culture; tap dance company Dorrance Dance; New York-based Gallim Dance; KEIGWIN + COMPANY, performing a piece commissioned by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts; and Madboots Dance, an all-male contemporary dance company; as well as choreography by Al Blackstone (Freddie Falls in Love) and Adbul Latif, artistic director of D~Squared Dance.
Since its inception in 1995, the festival has raised more than $4.3 million. Last year, the event raised a record-breaking $544,555.
