“Music has the power to heal,” said The Angel Band Project co-founder, Rachel Ebeling, in a statement. “There’s a reason we put on our favorite album for comfort or a pick-me-up when we’re feeling low. Given the fact that someone is sexually assaulted every two minutes in the U.S., we are using the therapeutic power of music as a healing tool for survivors of sexual assault in their journey towards healing.”

The Angel Band Project was founded after the tragic murder of Butz’s sister, Teresa, in July 2009. An intruder broke into the home she shared with her partner, Jennifer Hopper. Hopper and Butz were both brutally attacked but Hopper survived. Soon after the horrific event, friends and family of the pair released a benefit album to support and help ease the suffering of sexual violence survivors. Based in St. Louis, The Angel Band Project has grown into a non-profit organization whose mission is "to promote healing and to cultivate empathy for survivors of sexual violence through music."
