The 34th annual Lucille Lortel Awards will take place May 5 at the NYU Skirball Center. Presented by the Off-Broadway League, the awards celebrate the best of the Off-Broadway season, from productions to performers to designers.
This year’s ceremony will pay special tribute to Telsey + Company, headed by Bernard Telsey (co-artistic director of Off-Broadway’s MCC Theater).The casting office will receive the Outstanding Body of Work Award.
Meanwhile, María Irene Fornés will be posthumously inducted onto the Playwrights’ Sidewalk outside the Lucille Lortel Theater. The writer of such works as Promenade, Letts From Cuba, and What of the Nights? died at the age of 88 last October. Additionally, Off-Broadway League President Terry Byrne will receive the Edith Oliver Service to Off-Broadway Award for her continued contributions to the organization an the industry as a whole.
Nominations for the competitive categories will be announced April 3.
