Richard Alfieri’s play will close after the 3 PM matinee performance Nov. 23. Six Dance Lessons is the fourth show to close quickly this season, joining the already closed Bobbi Boland and Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All and Jackie Mason's Laughing Room Only, which ends its brief run Nov. 30.
Directed by Arthur Allan Seidelman, Six Dance Lessons stars stage and screen veteran Polly Bergen and Mark Hamill of “Star Wars” fame. Six Dance Lessons will have played 26 previews and 30 regular performances.
According to a release, “Polly Bergen, who missed several performance because of a previous leg injury, is unable to return to the show on a regular basis, therefore the show is closing. For the remaining 4 performances, the standby Kathleen Doyle will assume the role of Lily Harrison opposite Mark Hamill's Michael Minetti.” Ticket sales for the production have been poor throughout its run, often far below fifty percent capacity.
Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks will play Friday and Saturday at 8 PM with a matinee on Saturday at 2 PM and its final performance, Sunday at 3 PM. Tickets are available by calling (212) 239-6200.
The Belasco Theatre is located at 111 West 44th Street.
