Performer and activist Shakina Nayfack (Difficult People) is collaborating with Transparent series creator Jill Soloway (and sister Faith Soloway) on a two-hour musical version of the Emmy-winning television series, according to The New York Times.

Soloway told the Times that the musical special would be a mix of Jesus Christ Superstar, La La Land, and Flight of the Conchords.

According to Deadline, the Transparent musical will be part of the fifth and last season of the show, scheduled to air next fall. The future of the series was in flux when lead actor Jeffrey Tambor was accused of sexual harassment, but will now reportedly continue for a final season without him.

Nayfack recently handed over artistic directorship at the Musical Theatre Factory, which she founded, to Mei Ann Teo. She will remain involved as a member of the board while she continues to pursue her independent projects. Visit Shakina.NYC for more information.
