A host of Broadway and opera favorites joined together at Carnegie Hall on April 18 for a presentation of Leonard Bernstein’s Candide.
Paul Appleby starred in the title role with Erin Morley as Cunegonde, Patricia Racette as the Old Lady, William Burden as Governor, and John Lithgow as Voltaire/Dr. Pangloss. Special guests included Danny Burstein as Don Issachar, Len Cariou as the Archbishop, and Marilyn Horne as the Queen of Eldorado. Rob Fisher conducted the Orchestra of St. Luke’s.

Gary Griffin directed the concert with choreography by Joshua Bergasse.
The production was a benefit for the artistic and music education programs of Carnegie Hall, and part of a global, two-year initiative to celebrate Bernstein during his centenary.
