Directed by Daniel Aukin, Bad Jews premiered as part of Roundabout Underground in 2012, where it played a sold-out, extended run. The latest Off-Broadway engagement officially opened Oct. 3 after previews that began Sept. 19 at the Laura Pels Theatre.
Due to the extension, the Roundabout revival of Donald Margulies' Dinner With Friends will delay its production schedule by one week. It will now begin performances Jan. 17, 2014, and officially open Feb. 13, 2014, in the Laura Pels Theatre.
The cast of Bad Jews includes Tracee Chimo (Daphna), Philip Ettinger (Jonah), Molly Ranson (Melody) and Michael Zegen (Liam).
"You're voyeuristically peering into something that you should not be watching," playwright Harmon told Playbill in a recent interview. "This is a private fight within the family, and you're somehow intruding, which is an exciting, dangerous place for an audience to be. You're seeing something that is not meant to be seen."
Bad Jews, according to the Roundabout, is a comedy about the "holy and the holier-than-thou. Daphna Feygenbaum (Chimo) is a Real Jew — just ask the Israeli boyfriend she met on Birthright. So when her cousin Liam (Zegen) brings home his shiksa girlfriend Melody (Ranson) and declares ownership of their grandfather's Chai necklace, it sparks a viciously hilarious brawl over family, faith and legacy."
The creative team includes Lauren Helpern (set design), Mark Barton (lighting design), Dane Laffrey (costume design) and Shane Rettig (sound design).
