The Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park presentation of Twelfth Night, featuring music and lyrics by Shaina Taub, will release a cast recording this fall.
The album, from Concord Music’s Craft Recordings, is now available to pre-order and will be released digitally and on CD October 19. Those who pre-order will instantly receive the first track, “Play On.”
Featured on the recording are members of the 2018 staging’s cast, including Nikki M. James, Ato Blankson-Wood, Andrew Kober, Shuler Hensley, Troy Anthony, Lori Brown-Niang, Daniel Hall, Jonathan Jordan, Patrick J. O’Hare, Nanya-Akuki Goodrich, and Taub herself.
Conceived by Taub (also at work on the upcoming The Devil Wears Prada musical) and Kwame Kwei-Armah, the new take on the Shakespeare comedy premiered in 2016 through the Public Theater’s Public Works program, which integrates Equity performers with community members from all five New York City boroughs. The Kwei-Armah and Oskar Eustis-helmed production returned to the Delacorte Theater this summer as a mainstage presentation with many returning Equity performers and two rotating ensembles of community members.
The album is produced by Taub and Dean Sharenow, with Sean Patrick Flahaven serving as executive producer.
As previously reported, Concord Music also handles the licensing rights for Twelfth Night, as well as Taub’s musical adaptation of As You Like It, through Concord’s The Musical Company.
