The Village Voice OBIE Awards honor excellence in every aspect of Off-Broadway theatre. The OBIE Awards publish no nominations, and judges may give multiple OBIEs in any category, or even invent new categories, to reward exceptional artistic merit. There are no strict categories for the awards. This year, the committee recognized Annie Baker's Circle Mirror Transformation and The Aliens as the Best New American Play as well as Performance honors to the Ensemble of Circle Mirror Transformation (Reed Birney, Tracee Chimo, Peter Friedman, Deirdre O'Connell, Heidi Schreck), Dane DeHaan (The Aliens), Jonathan Hammond (The Boys in the Band), Marc Damon Johnson (The Brother/Sister Plays), Laurie Metcalf (A Lie of the Mind), Wendell Pierce (sustained excellence of performance), Juliet Rylance (As You Like It) and Rocco Sisto (sustained excellence of performance).
Next year, Carnegie Hall's house band will perform Bernstein’s “Kaddish” Symphony, unfinished works by Schubert, and the final concert of Conductor Bernard Labadie.
