Performances began October 21 at The Public Theater for the world premiere of Patricia Ione Lloyd's Eve's Song, a new play that examines America’s present racial climate through the eyes of a regular American family. The production is directed by Obie Award winner Jo Bonney, who returns to The Public following her acclaimed production of Lynn Nottage's play Mlima's Tale.
Eve's Song is scheduled to play an extended run through December 9 and will officially open November 7.
The cast is made up of De’Adre Aziza as Deborah, Karl Green as Mark, Ashley D. Kelley as Upendo, Vernice Miller as Spirit Woman, Kadijah Raquel as Lauren, Rachel Watson-Jih as Spirit Woman, and Tamara M. Williams as Spirit Woman.
Eve's Song features scenic design by Riccardo Hernandez, costume design by Emilio Sosa, lighting design by Lap Chi Chu, sound design by Elisheba Ittoop, projection design by Hana S. Kim, hair, wigs, and makeup design by J. Jared Janas, and movement direction by Stefanie Batten Bland.
