A new immersive theatre experience set to debut at Brooklyn's Industry City in December will combine elements of performance art, rave culture, and cinema. The theatrical event, titled Arcade Amerikana, will immerse audiences in a Las Vegas rehab retreat for the virtually addicted.
Inspired by shows such as Sleep No More and Fuerza Bruta and created by the artistic collective Arcade, Arcade Amerikana uses an interactive cube of four projector screens, performers, DJs mixing in real time, and immersive projection mapping to bring the story of the rehab retreat to life.
“We want to create a space that strips away masks of the social world,” says Russell Kahn, co-founder and producer of Arcade. Co-founder and director Lio Mehiel continues: “The use of rave elements allows a person to become anonymous... Arcade enlivens a sense of real presence, connecting a person more deeply with those around them, whether they be friends or strangers they just met in the cube.”
Arcade Amerikana is scheduled to play a limited run December 4–15. Tickets will be available on Eventbrite November 10. Click here for more information.
