Off-Broadway News MTC Adds Bekah Brunstetter's The Cake to Off-Broadway Season Artistic Director Lynne Meadow will helm the New York premiere next winter.

The Manhattan Theatre Club 2018–2019 Off-Broadway season will include the New York premiere of The Cake by playwright and screenwriter Bekah Brunstetter (This Is Us, American Gods, The Oregon Trail), directed by MTC's artistic director Lynne Meadow.

The Cake will begin previews February 12, 2019, prior to a March 5 opening night at MTC at New York City Center – Stage I. Casting and a creative team will be announced at a later date.

In The Cake, a North Carolina baker is forced to re-examine her deeply held beliefs when her late-best-friend’s daughter asks her to make a cake for her lesbian wedding. The play received its world premiere at Echo Theater Los Angeles, and is tapped for regional productions at Alley Theatre and La Jolla Playhouse.

Brunstetter's other plays include Going to a Place Where You Already Are, Cutie and Bear, A Long and Happy Life, Oohrah!, and Be A Good Little Widow.

MTC's previously announced 2018–2019 Broadway season will feature the American premiere of The Nap, by One Man, Two Guvnors playwright Richard Bean (beginning September 4), and Tarell Alvin McCraney’s play Choir Boy (December 27). Off-Broadway, MTC will produce the world premieres of Jaclyn Backhaus’ India Pale Ale (October 2), and Bess Wohl's Continuity (May 7, 2019).
