Tony-winning playwright Martin McDonagh (The Pillowman, The Cripple of Inishmaan) will debut a new play at London's Bridge Theatre in fall 2018. The mysterious new drama, titled A Very Very Very Dark Matter, will premiere with a cast led by Oscar winner Jim Broadbent (Moulin Rouge!, Iris) and directed by Matthew Dunster.
A Very Very Very Dark Matter tells the story of Hans Christian Andersen, the Danish writer best known for having penned fairy tales like The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, and The Princess and the Pea.
The world premiere is slated to begin performances October 10, 2018, with a 12-week run scheduled through December 29. Anna Fleischle is attached as designer.
The production is from London Theatre Company. A complete creative team and casting will be announced at a later date.
Dunster recently directed the Olivier Award-winning Royal Court Theatre production of Martin McDonagh’s Hangmen, set to have its U.S. premiere at the Atlantic Theater Off-Broadway this winter.
