The London cast album of Martin Guerre will be released in the U.S. Nov. 26.It's the latest score by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil, who wrote Les Miserables and Miss Saigon.
Released under the DreamWorks Records label, the recording seems to follow the show as it was revised in late October, with its restructured first act. "Artigat," "Over a Year" and "Why Won't You Love Me?" have been cut; the new songs "Working on the Land" and "When Will Someone Hear?" have been added. The music from the cut song "Charivari" is used in the new number, "Where's the Child."
The album includes the original leads, Iain Glen and Jerome Pradon. Juliette Caton, the originator of the role of Bertrande de Rols in London, is not featured on the CD. Rebecca Lock, the understudy who is now "sharing" the role with Caton, sings Bertrande on the recording.
Though no American production has been announced, the release accompanying the preview CD said, "Martin Guerre -- London Cast Recording will be America's only hearing of the musical in its entirety until it receives staging in the U.S."
However, at least one Playbill On-Line reader who has heard the recording says the score has been cut slightly to fit the time limits of the CD.
