Laura Bell Bundy, Norbert Leo Butz, Nikki M. James, Shoshana Bean, Greg Hildreth, and Bryan Terrell Clark are among Broadway stars who are joining forces for the December 4 gala to benefit the “Food, Health and Hope: An Answer to Diabetes” initiative of the charity Broadway Beats Hunger, being held at Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey.
Among the headlining stars scheduled to perform: two-time Tony Award winner Butz (Catch Me If You Can, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), Tony winner James (Book of Mormon), Tony nominee Bundy (Legally Blonde the Musical), Clark (Motown, Hamilton), Hildreth (Frozen), Bean (Wicked), plus Adam Kaplan (A Bronx Tale), Joey Taranto (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark),
Ellen Marie Marsh (Kinky Boots), Paul Canaan (Kinky Boots), and Jackie Cruz (Orange Is the New Black).
Led by the Summit Medical Group Foundation and Community FoodBank of New Jersey, the Food, Health and Hope diabetes initiative is designed “to shine a spotlight on a rampant health issue affecting thousands in New Jersey’s underprivileged communities,” says Dr. William Tansey, a member of Summit’s board of directors. “Putting an end to diabetes starts with awareness and access. By joining Broadway and our cause, we can draw much-needed attention to help raise funds for this life-changing initiative while giving people hope that there is an answer.”
Proceeds from the event will go to fund free diabetes screenings; fresh, healthy and diabetes-friendly food at no cost; access to nutrition programs; education on diabetes self-care; assistance with low-cost diabetes medication; eye and foot examinations; and other services.
