Tony Award-winning actor John Rubinstein (Children of a Lesser God) will direct the work which plays as part of the radio theater series, "The Play’s The Thing," live performances at the Skirball Cultural Center to be recorded for future radio broadcast.
Top Girls follows a woman who rises to the top of the workplace ladder "only to discover that life above the glass ceiling isn't all it's cracked up to be," as a release describes. "The play famously opens with a dreamlike sequence of Marlene chatting up famous women in history, who proceed to get drunk and explain why it's tough to be a woman in a man's world."
Rubinstein — who has previously directed productions of Into the Woods and A Little Night Music — helms a cast that includes Brenneman ("Judging Amy"), Going ("Into the West") and Oberle ("Six Feet Under"). More casting to be announced shortly.
The 31st season at L.A.T.W. continues with Top Girls (Jan. 11-15, 2006), Arms and the Man (Feb. 1-5, 2006), The Great Tennessee Monkey Trial (March 1-5, 2006), Romance (April 5-9, 2006), Fired Again (May 3-7, 2006, The Real Dr. Strangelove (June 7-11, 2006) and another work to be announced (July 12-16, 2006).
