MCC Theater had originally announced the production as part of its 2012-13 season; however, cast members' film schedules delayed the Off-Broadway run, which was replaced this season by Neil LaBute's Reasons to Be Happy.
Jo Bonney (The Break of Noon, Some Girl(s), Fat Pig) will stage Small Engine Repair, which will begin previews Oct. 30 towards a Nov. 18 opening at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.
"The Walking Dead" actor Jon Bernthal, who was originally announced to co-star in Small Engine Repair, was forced to withdraw from the production due to filming conflicts as a result of the play's postponement. Christopher Fitzgerald (Wicked, Young Frankenstein), who was also previously announced, will not be part of the production due to scheduling conflicts.
As previously reported, playwright Pollono will co-star in the production that welcomes Dale ("World War Z," "The Pacific"), Ransone ("The Wire") and Allen ("Pretty Little Liars") to the cast.
Small Engine Repair premiered at Los Angeles' Rogue Machine Theatre in 2011, earning the Los Angeles Drama Critics Award for Playwriting. According to MCC Theater, "In Small Engine Repair, Frank, Swaino and Packie - buddies since high school, now past their prime - meet off-hours in Frank’s out-of-the-way repair shop under cloudy circumstances that only Frank has a handle on. Enter Chad, a plugged-in preppy college jock, whose arrival ignites an explosion of long-simmering resentment and rage in this taut, twisty, comic thriller."
MCC previously announced that its season would also include the Broadway world premiere of Sharr White's The Snow Geese, starring Mary-Louise Parker, at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in the fall. It is a co-production with Manhattan Theatre Club.
