Jessie Mueller, last seen on Broadway in a Tony-nominated turn as Julie Jordan in Carousel, will take on another classic leading lady role next year. The Tony winner is set to play Marian Paroo in The Music Man at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The production, presented as part of the Broadway Center Stage series, will run February 6–10, 2019, in the Eisenhower Theater.
As previously reported, Tony nominee Norm Lewis is set to take on the title role of Harold Hill. Marc Bruni, who helmed Broadway’s Beautiful: The Carole King Musical (for which Mueller won her Tony), will direct the production, which will also feature choreography by Chris Bailey and music direction by James Moore.
Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
Meredith Willson’s Iowa-set Americana tale is the second title in the Kennedy Center’s current Center Stage season, following Little Shop of Horrors. The lineup up semi-staged concerts, produced by Jeffrey Finn, will conclude in April with The Who’s Tommy.
