The Broadway transfer of Indecent, the newest work by Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel, officially opens April 18 at The Cort Theatre. The play with music began previews on Broadway April 4 following an acclaimed Off-Broadway run at downtown’s Vineyard Theatre last year.
Indecent is inspired by the real-life controversy surrounding the 1923 Broadway production of Sholem Asch's God of Vengeance, the love story of two women. At the time, the reaction to Asch’s work was divided between those who considered it to be groundbreaking and by others as traitorous. The new play with music, which charts the history of the drama and the artists who risked their lives to perform the show, is written by Vogel, created by Vogel and Rebecca Taichman, and directed by Taichman.
