Join Playbill photographer Marc J. Franklin for an afternoon with Dear Evan Hansen’s Kristolyn Lloyd.

Today is going to be a good day. And here's why: Dear Evan Hansen’s Kristolyn Lloyd and I are sitting on a quiet park bench overlooking the Hudson River after having just reached the top of the Fort Tryon Park. It’s a warm, cloudy afternoon, and everything feels permeated with a sense of calm. For Lloyd, these serene afternoons are a rejuvenating balance to the exciting whirlwind that’s been her past year with Dear Evan Hansen. Especially in the summer, performing in the hit has taken on a new meaning. “It’s a younger crowd because school is out… Younger audiences tend to be more vocal,” Lloyd reflects. “There is something really powerful and wonderful about that.”

For Lloyd, who spent several years working in Los Angeles before moving to New York, connecting with nature is another way of getting connected to herself. “I like staying active because it’s good for my brain. It’s therapeutic,” she says. Located in the lush northern tip of Manhattan, in Inwood, Kristolyn Lloyd has found her oasis.
