The world premiere of "Daddy" by Jeremy O. Harris officially opened at the Pershing Square Signature Center March 5. With direction by Danya Taymor, the new drama is an exploration of intimacy and identity in which Basquiats, gospel, and fantasy collide around a Bel Air swimming pool.
In "Daddy," the feverish link between young artist Franklin (Ronald Peet) and older white collector Andre (Alan Cumming) deepens into an irresistible bond, pushing Franklin's mother (Charlayne Woodard) into a battle of wills over the soul of the man they both call baby. Completing the cast are Carrie Compere, Tommy Dorfman, Kahyun Kim, Denise Manning, Hari Nef, and Onyie Nwachukwu.
Performances of "Daddy" began February 13 in the Signature Center's The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre. The world premiere is a co-production from The New Group and The Vineyard Theatre.
