'S Wonderful (the title is a song from the 1927 musical Funny Face) has musical direction by Richard Hip-Flores and choreography by Vince Pesce. The triple-threat cast of five features Courtney Bassett, Trevor McQueen, Katie Mitchell, Kimberly Thomas and Sean Watkins.
The show (seen on tour in the past season) features "mini-musicals" inspired by the real events occurring in and around the lives of the Gershwin brothers. The revue "illustrates their impact on the world then and now," setting scenes in New York City in 1916, Paris in the 1930s, Hollywood in the '40s and New Orleans in the '50s. The climax takes us into the 21st century.
The Gershwin estate has authorized the use of the Gershwin songbook for 'S Wonderful. Expect more than 40 classic hits by lyricist Ira Gershwin and his composer brother George Gershwin. "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off," "Shall We Dance," "Someone to Watch Over Me" and "Rhapsody in Blue" are among the selections.
The creative team includes set designer Lewis Folden; lighting designer Russell A. Thompson; sound designer Scott Elmegreen; and costume designer Barbara Anderson. Maximum Entertainment and Premiere Media are producing.
