Tiki Barber, who played ten seasons for the New York Giants and was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 2011, steps into the role of Don in the Tony-winning Kinky Boots at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre January 18, three days earlier than originally announced.
Barber, who will play a limited run through March 3, succeeds original cast member Daniel Stewart Sherman, who is temporarily leaving to appear in My Very Own British Invasion at Paper Mill Playhouse. Sherman will return to the role of Don March 4 and stay through the show’s final performance April 7.
“I am so excited to be making my Broadway debut in Kinky Boots,” Barber said in an earlier statement. “I was very fortunate to be part of the New York Giants for ten years and feel incredibly lucky to be joining another New York institution: Broadway.”
Callum Francis, who starred in the U.K. and Australian tours of Kinky Boots, recently made his Broadway debut as Lola in the hit musical. Francis is playing the role through March 17, succeeding J. Harrison Ghee, who will return to the role March 19 through the end of the run. Kinky Boots ensemble member Andy Kelso, who first played Charlie Price in January 2014, recently returned to the role that he will play through the musical's last show.
