The U.S. premiere of Charles Wuorinen and Annie Proulx’s operatic adaptation of Brokeback Mountain opens May 31 at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater. The New York City Opera production continues through June 4.

The opera, based on Proulx's short story of the same name (which also inspired the 2005 film), made its world premiere in 2014 at Madrid’s Teatro Real. It was originally commissioned by NYCO in 2008 before the company initially shut down in 2013.

Directed by Jacopo Spirei, the production stars Daniel Okulitch as Ennis del Mar, Glenn Seven Allen as Jack Twist, Heather Buck as Alma Beers, and Hilary Ginther as Lureen. Kazem Abdullah conducts.
