The Broadway premiere of Prince of Broadway, a musical celebration that highlights the legendary, six-decade career of director and producer Harold Prince, has found its principal stars. As previously announced, the Manhattan Theatre Club and Gorgeous Entertainment production will start previews August 3 prior to an August 24 opening night at MTC’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
The cast of Prince of Broadway will feature Tony Award winner Chuck Cooper (Caroline, or Change), Tony nominees Emily Skinner (Side Show), Tony Yazbeck (On the Town), Nancy Opel (Urinetown), and Brandon Uranowitz (Falsettos), Drama Desk Award winner Janet Dacal (In The Heights), Bryonha Marie Parham (Porgy & Bess), and Kaley Ann Voorhees (The Phantom of the Opera. One additional cast member will be announced at a later date.
Skinner, Yazbeck, Opel, Voorhees, and Parham are returning to the tribute show after starring in the world premiere in Tokyo, Japan in 2015.
Tickets for Prince of Broadway will be available to purchase to American Express members starting April 10 at 10 AM. Audience Rewards members will be able to buy tickets beginning April 18 at 10 AM, and the general on-sale date is April 24 at 10 AM through Telecharge.com or (212) 239-6200.
Prince of Broadway features both biographical material and songs from many of the shows that earned Prince a record 21 Tony Awards, including West Side Story, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret, Evita, Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, and The Phantom of the Opera.

The show features original songs, musical supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by three-time Tony winner Jason Robert Brown (The Bridges of Madison County), a book by two-time Tony nominee David Thompson (The Scottsboro Boys), co-direction and choreography by five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman (The Producers), and direction by Prince himself.
The creative team for Prince of Broadway also features Tony-winning scenic and projection designer Beowulf Boritt, six-time Tony-winning costume designer William Ivey Long, two-time Tony-winning lighting designer Howell Binkley, wig designer Paul Huntley,and music director Fred Lassen. Casting is by Tara Rubin and Jeffrey Seller is the creative consultant.
Additional funding for Prince of Broadway is provided by The John Gore Organization, James L. Nederlander, The Shubert Organization, and Kumiko Yoshii. The world-premiere production in Japan was produced by Umeda Arts Theater Co., Ltd., Tokyo Broadcasting System Television, Inc., and Amuse Inc.
The limited Broadway engagement will be presented as part of MTC’s 2017-18 subscription season. The Samuel J. Friedman Theatre is located at 261 West 47th Street, New York.
