Broadway’s Disaster! has announced that it will play its final performance at the Nederlander Theatre on Sunday, May 8. The show is the first to post a closing notice following today’s Tony Award nominations announcement.
The show earned a single nod in the Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical category for Jennifer Simard’s portrayal of Sister Mary Downey. Disaster! was named a New York Times Critic’s Pick.
When it closes, Disaster! will have played 32 preview sand 72 regular performances.
The musical will be licensed for professional and amateur production by Music Theatre International. Co-author and star Seth Rudetsky tweeted to fans that a cast album would be recorded, but told Playbill.com that no date or label had been confirmed.
Directed by Jack Plotnick, with a book by Seth Rudetsky and Plotnick, Disaster! stars Tony Award winner Roger Bart, Tony Award nominee Kerry Butler, three-time Tony Award nominee Kevin Chamberlin, Tony Award nominee Adam Pascal, Tony Award winner Faith Prince, Drama Desk Award winner Rachel York, three-time Emmy Award nominee and Grammy Award nominee Rudetsky, Tony nominee Simard, Max Crumm, Tony Award nominee Manoel Felciano, Baylee Littrell, Paul Castree, Casey Garvin, Travis Kent, Alyse Alan Louis, Maggie McDowell, Olivia Phillip, Catherine Ricafort and Lacretta Nicole.
