The long-gestating film adaptation of Cats claws closer to the big screen. Working Title Films has confirmed that the project is scheduled to begin production in the U.K. in November.
Additionally, Olivier Award-winning Royal Ballet choreographer Wayne McGregor has signed onto the Tom Hooper-helmed film and will hold casting calls for ensemble members in June and July before rehearsals begin later in the summer.
Working Title is partnering with Universal Pictures on the film, marking a reunion between the two studios and Hooper after another high-profile movie musical: 2012's Les Misérables.
The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, last played Broadway in a 2016 revival at the Neil Simon Theatre. The original Broadway production ran at the Winter Garden for nearly 18 years.
As previously reported, Lloyd Webber is at work on new material for the film version, including a new song for Victoria.
