Susan Stroman's Contact will open at London's Queen's Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, on Oct. 3 with a press night scheduled for Oct. 23. The dance musical will run through Feb. 22, 2003.
The cast includes Leigh Zimmerman, Michael Praed and Sarah Wildor.
Leigh Zimmerman's recent West End credits include Velma Kelly in Chicago; Michael Praed is still fondly remembered for his Frederick in The Pirates of Penzance at Drury Lane; and Sarah Wildor is one of Britain's most distinguished ballerinas.
The Susan Stroman-John Weidman musical marks Stroman's West End directorial debut. Stroman, who has taken Broadway by storm with a number of hit musicals, including the biggest hit of all, The Producers, is best known to London audiences through her choreography for Trevor Nunn's production of Oklahoma! — also a hit, now, in New York.
Contact is a non-singing musical without an original score, yet it won a Tony Award for Best Musical, a controversial but well-deserved award for this unusual and exciting show, which is divided into three distinct sections: "Swinging," "Did You Move?" and "Contact." It is the last section in particular that it is believed may be filmed, with Stroman as director.
