Stage to Page Broadway's Lion King Now Nine Minutes Shorter Those attending the Broadway production of the Tony-winning Disney musical The Lion King will enjoy a leaner production.

The musical, which was helmed by Tony winner Julie Taymor, runs approximately nine minutes shorter than when it opened, according to Variety. The changes were implemented prior to the June 15 arrival of several new cast members.

One of the major changes is the elimination of the tune "The Morning Report"; many of the changes were made earlier for the Las Vegas production.

Disney's Thomas Schumacher told the industry paper, "Though implementing changes into current companies obviously incurs costs, we believe that the careful stewardship of our titles is at least partly responsible for their continued success."

The Lion King currently plays Broadway's Minskoff Theatre.
