The ghost with the most found a Broadway host.
The stage musical adaptation of Beetlejuice, set to make its world premiere in Washington, D.C., this fall, will arrive on Broadway in spring 2019. Performances will begin in March at the Winter Garden Theatre prior to an April 25 official opening; an exact start date will be announced later.
The D.C. engagement kicks off October 14 at the National Theatre, where it will open November 4 and run through November 18.
The musical, based on the Tim Burton dark comedy, will feature a score by Australian musician-comedian Eddie Perfect (who is also at work this season on the incoming King Kong musical) and a book by Anthony King and Scott Brown. Alex Timbers (the Moulin Rouge! musical) will direct; Connor Gallagher will choreograph.
The Winter Garden is currently home to Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical adaptation of School of Rock, which will end its three-year Broadway stint January 20.
While casting for the Broadway engagement is not confirmed, the out-of-town premiere will star School of Rock Tony nominee Alex Brightman as the title ghoul, with Sophia Anne Caruso as Lydia, Tony nominees Kerry Butler and Rob McClure as Barbara and Adam Maitland, and Leslie Kritzer and Adam Dennheisser as Delia and Charles Deetz.
Beetlejuice will feature sets by David Korins, costumes by William Ivey Long, lighting by Kenneth Posner, sound design by Peter Hylenski, projection design by Peter Nigrini, puppet design by Michael Curry, special effects by Jeremy Chernick, illusions from Michael Weber, and music supervision and orchestrations by Kris Kukul.
