The Broadway musical Bandstand will launch a non-Equity national tour this fall, beginning November 1 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Written by Robert Taylor (book and lyrics) and Richard Oberacker (book, lyrics, and music) and directed and choreographed by three-time Tony winner Andy Blankenbuehler, Bandstand was seen on Broadway in 2017.
The musical was nominated for three Tony Awards, winning for Best Choreography.
Casting for the tour has not been announced. Laura Osnes and Corey Cott starred in the Broadway original that cast actor-musicians to play members of the Donny Nova Band.
Additional stops on the tour include Wichita, Kansas; Eugene, Oregon; Sarasota, Florida; Sacramento, California; Dallas, Texas; and New Haven, Connecticut.
In the musical Donny comes home from the front lines of World War II and tries to return to his life as a songwriter. When NBC announces a national contest to find the next superstars to hit the bandstand, he recruits fellow veteran musicians and the Gold Star widow of his buddy to form the Donny Nova Band and heal through their music.
The musical was also filmed and screened in movie theatres via Fathom Events.
