Carnegie Hall’s 2018–2019 season launches October 3 at 7 PM in a gala concert in the Stern Auditorium featuring the San Francisco Symphony under the baton of Maestro Michael Tilson Thomas, and featuring two titans of the theatre and opera world: Audra McDonald and Renée Fleming.
Six-time Tony Award winner McDonald and Fleming, a Tony nominee for her performance in the recent Broadway revival of Carousel, will offer a selection of show tunes and opera arias and duets including works by Stephen Sondheim, Adam Guettel, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Bock and Harnick, George and Ira Gershwin, and Heitor Villa-Lobos.
The 75-minute program will feature orchestral selections including George Gershwin’s An American in Paris, as well as Gershwin’s Cuban Overture, and Ravel’s La valse.
Thomas is set to curate a total of seven concerts in the season as part of Carnegie Hall’s Perspectives series.
Season highlights also include The New York Pops’ October 19 presentation of Roll Over Beethoven: A Different Kind Of Orchestra, showcasing music from the likes of Elvis Presley and the Beatles, featuring Las Vegas favorite Frankie Moreno. The lineup continues November 16 with a tribute to Broadway featuring the Essential Voices USA choir and the New York Theatre ballet, a December 22 holiday program with guest artist Ashley Brown (Mary Poppins), Tony winner Billy Porter in Unforgettable: Celebrating Nat King Cole and Friends February 8, 2019, and Ashley Park, Ryan Silverman, Storm Large, and Ryan Shaw in Movie Mixtape: Songs from the Silver Screen March 15.
