Belfast's Lyric Theatre presents Janet Behan's play, which explores the final weeks of Irish playwright Behan's life, when he lived at New York's Chelsea Hotel.
Dunbar ("My Left Foot," "The Crying Game," "The General") directs and stars in the play that will run through Oct. 6.
The cast also features Pauline Hutton, Richard Orr, Samantha Pearl and Chris Robinson.
Brendan at the Chelsea "offers an unvarnished picture of Behan, who once quipped that he was 'a drinker with a writing problem.' He loved New York, but would the Chelsea and an indulgent city nurture this angry rebel, and help him come to terms with his demons about his drinking and his sex addictions (and possible bi-sexuality)? Maybe so, but a phone call from Dublin, will force him to return home, where he will be dead at 41 in a matter of weeks," press notes state.
Brendan at the Chelsea premiered at London's Hammersmith Studios in 2008 with Dunbar in the title role.
Brendan Behan is best known for the plays The Quare Fellow and An Giall (The Hostage).
