An inventive new production of Giacomo Puccini‘s La Bohème opened at the Paris Opera on December 1. The staging, directed by Claus Guth and set in space, began performances on November 28 for a run through December 31 at Opéra Bastille.
The new staging is set a century from now, “in a future devoid of hope in which love and art become the sole means of transcendence.”
The cast includes Sonya Yoncheva (December 1–12) and Nicole Car (December 16–31) as Mimi, Aida Garifullina as Musetta, Atalla Ayan (December 1–16) and Benjamin Bernheim (December 18–31) as Rodolfo, Artur Ruciński as Marcello, Alessio Arduini (December 1–21) and Andrei Jilihovschi (December 23–31) as Schaunard, and Roberto Tagliavini as Colline.
