25 Days of Tonys: The Boys in the Band’s Robin de Jesús Reveals the Hilarious Title of His Would-Be Bio-Musical | Playbill

Video 25 Days of Tonys: The Boys in the Band’s Robin de Jesús Reveals the Hilarious Title of His Would-Be Bio-Musical And which of his former co-stars he wants to write it.

“This show was a really really personal experience for me that I didn't realize going into it,” says Robin de Jesús of his role in The Boys in the Band, for which he earned a Tony nomination.

“It was something about being in a show with nine out gay men and the gayest creative team ... people who, perhaps, at one point in their lives thought that homosexuality was a hindrance to their success and the polar opposite was what was happening to us in that moment,” he continues. “It made me realize how important pride is and how that sustains us.”

De Jesús feels the pride so much so that it winds up in the would-be title for the show about his life—which he reveals in the video above. He also shared the show that changed his life, the musical theatre song he’ll always love, his favorite Tony Awards performance and more.

As for his third Tony nomination, “When I think about what their lives were like, my parents when they were kids, and that I get to be here today doing this, that big of a leap in one generation is really mind-boggling.”
