The Broadway hit has become a cultural phenomenon, with Billboard praising the cast recording as the best rap album of the year. It also placed in the No. 1 slot on Billboard's rap and cast album charts.
The cast of Hamilton performed the show's opening number during the Grammy telecast. Stephen Colbert introduced the performance that was piped in via satellite from the stage of the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway where the cast performed for an invited audience of friends, family and Broadway industry members.

Immediately following his win, Miranda took to the stage of the Richard Rodgers Theatre holding a Grammy statue, and telling the audience to "Take your pictures!" He then passed it to fellow cast member Anthony Ramos who said, "This is crazy. This is for you mom!"
