DESCRIPTION

The Willson Theater Head Electrician is responsible for executing all lighting/video needs in the Willson Theater. Responsibilities (essential functions):
• Works directly with the Lighting Designer so as to accomplish the designer’s needs.
• Prepares and maintains all paperwork pertaining to the productions in this space.
• Ensures that all lighting equipment is properly and safely hung and focused for productions and events.
• Wires all practicals for the productions.
• Attends all production meetings, tech rehearsals and performances so as to maintain the integrity of the production.
• Prepares the theatre for tech rehearsals with headsets, cue lights, and running lights as needed.
• Supervises staff, apprentice, and overhire electrics crews throughout the production process. Supervises a student crew for Dance Workshops and Dance Senior Production
• Determines the appropriate crew calls and note sessions with the Electrics Shop Supervisor and the Lighting Designer.
• Helps to keep track of purchase orders used for the rental or purchase of items related to the productions.
• Informs the Electrics Shop Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor as to the status of the productions.
• Trains, advises, and mentors Electrics Apprentices along with the rest of the Electrics Shop staff.
• Coordinates with Dance faculty and staff to assist in the setup and teaching of Stagecraft Class and Workshops.
• Instruct the Willson Theater Stage Manager in regard to the equipment available to them.
• Works with the Chief Audio Engineer to understand the basic sound support for each production and to assist in the set-up and maintenance thereof.
• Works with the Staff Electrician to understand the basic video support for each production and to assist in the set-up and maintenance thereof. Assists in planning and executing safe rigging of video equipment as necessary.
• Maintains the repertory light plot equipment and supervises all electrics aspects of all workshops, concerts, and associated rehearsals.
• Works on load-ins and focus calls as well as taking part of show crew in other spaces as time allows.
• Fulfills maintenance duties on a daily, weekly, and yearly basis both in the theatres and in the electrics shops.
• The successful candidate must be able to work well with all levels of employees, be flexible in nature, have sound judgment with an open and collaborative style that encourages teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organization.
• Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies (staff, students, faculty, and administrators) with diplomacy and tact

Minimum Requirements:
• Two years experience as a Head Electrician in a professional venue.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work as a team player and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
• Strong familiarity with ETC Eos software and hardware (Eos, Ion, RVI)
• Computer literacy including the use of Lightwright and Vectorworks.
• Working closely with students and stage craft practices.

Preferred Background:
• Previous experience in a multi-purpose performance space.
• Experience on opera, drama, and dance productions.
• Experience with student mentoring and crew management a plus.
