Acting Teacher for Summer Music Program for NYC Kids

 

Acting Teacher Job:
NYC non-profit, Statement Arts, is seeking an experienced Acting Teacher to work with 20 NYC kids, grades 3-11, for 4 weeks in July as part of our StART Young program (formerly known as Empower Youth Through Performance). 

 

Job Description:

 

The Acting Teacher, in conjunction with the Musical Director, will create and implement a curriculum that will inspire and empower students by using, among other art forms, music, dance, improv, acting, script writing, monologues, etc. The curriculum should include a writing and social justice component and should be informed by the subjects that matter to the students. The instructional component of this position will commence July 2021 and will culminate in a final performance that the students and staff create themselves with songs from Broadway musicals and beyond. We will also need 3-5 pages of written curriculum prior to the start of the program. This position is located at the United Palace of Cultural Arts in Washington Heights, NYC. 


Experience:

The Acting Teacher should have excellent teaching, improv, devising drama, directing, singing, and coaching experience. Must have good knowledge of Broadway musicals as well as some classical and contemporary pieces. StART Young is a fun, rewarding, and creative environment. You must be professional, patient, reliable, encouraging, and able to work with elementary, middle school, and high school students. 


Applicants must provide at least 2 professional references and show a love for teaching kids.


Recommended Minimum Requirements:
A Bachelor's Degree in Theater Arts (a minor in music, acting, dance is ok), or 5+ years acting teaching experience.


Dates: July 6 - July 30, 2021

Time: 9:00am - 2:00pm 

Location: The United Palace of Cultural Arts, 175th St. and Broadway

There is 1 *performance, 1 staff meeting and 1 final meeting:
Performances: Friday, July 16  (1:00 - 2:00pm), and Friday July 30 (1:00 - 2:00pm)

Final meeting: Date TBD

Staff meeting: Date TBD


Sessions:

Grades 3-6, July 6-July 16, 9am-2pm

Grades 7-11, July 19-July 30, 9am-2pm


COVID-19:

Due to the continual changes and adaptations to COVID-19, we will abide by the CDC and New York State Guidelines. We will enforce all students, teaching artists, and staff members to wear masks, the washing of hands, temperature checks, and anything else deemed necessary.


Stipend: $ 2850 (19 Days)
